"You Are Tall"

As obvious as my height is, I actually have people tell me a lot that I am tall. I have been getting it my whole life. So many memories to pick from, being told I had to think about quitting gymnastics because I was getting too tall, to my brother asking me how the air was up there and seeing a certain family member literally on the floor laughing, to me constantly being asked to get things off the top shelf at grocery stores by complete strangers. Yeah I am your regular Big Friendly Giant. By the work of the Lord only have I been able to finally be comfortable with my height.
I am not writing this post because I just discovered that I am tall, I write this because I was reminded of a story last night while looking at an extremely tall girl.

A couple of years ago I was in the grocery store by myself, looking at whatever it was, lets say bread. Another couple was in the aisle with me but further away. Still trying to figure out what bread I wanted I began to feel a presence behind me. I look over my sholder and the man of the couple was LITERALLY going back to back with me. What the heck? I obviously turned around fast causing the man to get a mouth full of my hair and starred at him with a concerned look, for him, on my face. The girlfriend then goes on to explain how he was quietly trying to back up to me to see if he was taller than me. I mean come on!

However, I was reminded of this story because last night at In N Out, I was that guy. A super tall girl walks in and here I go, the long way around the restaurant to get the ketchup we did not need. Walking by the girl twice so that Kevin, who was the look out man, could see who was taller. Unable to make a decision, I just happen to need to refill my drink when she was refilling hers. Noticing that her knees were at my hips I declared her the winner.

That night changed me my friends. From then on I decided that all tall girls are in a club and because we know what each other goes through in life we should be able to talk about our height freely with strangers, ask all the normal questions...
"Did you play basketball?"
"I bet your parents are tall"
"How tall ARE you?"
Without feeling guilty or annoying.

So to all the tall girls out there, go get 'em!

  2. I just found your blog, Amber and laughed out loud when I read this because I totally did this to you freshman year! I remember you walking in the DC and thinking "I wonder if she is taller than me?" And you most definitely are the winner of that competition. Too funny!
